Sleep apnea, which is the breathing interruption during sleep, can be seen at any age, more often in men over 40 years old and in postmenopausal women.
Breathing pauses that can repeat frequently throughout the night should take at least 10 seconds to be called sleep apnea.
While the treatment is determined according to the severity of the disease, CPAP devices that are used with a mask that is used to open the obstructed airway are preferred, while surgical treatments may be required. Surgical intervention may be required at more advanced levels.
